All the kerfluffle about the A&S thing at Pennsic has, oddly, got me thinking about Pennsic again. As much as I hate summertime camping, I do want to get back there. Driving up to King's Assessment last night, I made a mental list of things that have to happen before I can go again:
1: Most importantly, I need more vacation time to burn. This will not happen until 2013. I actually have the same amount of hours as I did at my last job, but working twelve hour shifts means it works out to less days.
2: I need a new vehicle. My truck is failing. A 4-hour drive to Wings in October makes me nervous. A 6-hour drive to Pennsic in the heat of summer is way too risky.
3: I need a period pavilion. As much as I love my modern 8-oz canvas tent, it's time to spiff up a bit.
4: I need a camp. As much as I love the Isenfir MJZ encampment and have enjoyed camping with them (at Pennsic and elsewhere) over the years, I'm missing the Medieval European scene that I originally joined the SCA for. Finding a new camp isn't really keeping me from going to Pennic, but it's still something that needs to be done.
Of course, not going back to Pennsic for at least three more years puts the kibosh on the Isenfir Family Reunion I was putting together for Pennsic 40 next year. I'm thinking of doing it at Atlantia's 30th Anniversary instead, which will probably work out for the best. The turnout of Isenfiri will be probably much better since it's, ya know, in Isenfir.
