As
doolabug so eloquently put it, we've been ashore for a spell. Five months is quite a spell.
We just needed some time away. Not sure why--I really can't explain it. But I know we needed it because for the first time ever, I don't feel guilty about being away.
A brief update:
--Desperately wish we could come to SITS this weekend. *pouts* I would so love to meet all of you.
--Still working two jobs. Just biding my time waiting for a fulltime offer to work with Temesia at her store.
--I've finally started taking my meds again. I'd been off them since mid-October when my job was taken over by a new contractor, whose benefits suck. My part-time job is now paying for them since I simply could not afford them with my current prescription plan. I have gained back an extra 10-15 pounds (since October) because I do not have the meds controlling my insulin resistance and sugar. Now my body has to get used to taking these meds again. I've been feeling like crap for the last two weeks, so everything should start leveling out soon.
--Dad is doing well. In fact, he's doing much better than I imagined he would six months after Carol's death. He's getting used to being able to come and go as he pleases and is getting used to being alone. He is planning on moving down to the lake cabin in the next year and a half, which will be awesome, considering that it's only about 1.5 hours north of here. Plus, lake! Dad is toying with the idea of building his own pirate ship. He lives on the edge of a cove and wants to rename it "Pirates Cove" and get his hands on some mannequins to dress up as pirates and put them in the trees behind his cabin so people from the water will see them. Arrr!
--Temesia got her Maleficent leg sleeve finished this Spring. She took 3rd Place at the Hell City Tattoo Festival (a national competition) in Columbus, OH, in May. Our artist was going to take us up for it, but he had to bow out last minute. So we worked out an accord--ink in exchange for the cost of the trip without him. So we went el cheapo. : ) Only he's moved to the beach in Wilmington, NC, about 4 hours away, so my leg is itching for some new work. I'll eventually get Temesia to post some pics of her sleeve. It's awesome!
--Also in May, we took Mom to a Depeche Mode concert in Virginia. They swung back around on the 2nd leg of their world tour and since she didn't go with us last Fall, we bought her a ticket for Mother's Day. We had a blast! We met up with a bunch of fellow Moders from their message board and tailgated and then when we went inside, one of the ladies who hung out with all if us in the parking lot came up to us and handed us 5th row seats!!! She thought it was cool that we had brought our Mom and came as a family and said she wanted us to have them since she managed to get her hands on a first row seat at the last minute. She had bought all these other tickets trying to get closer and had 3 to spare! Restored my faith in mankind she did. To say that it was fucking incredible does not even come close to how wild it was. The singer, Dave Gahan, did a double take when he saw us sitting together! Whee! And to have Mom there with us was the icing on the cake. She's become a huge fan over the last year.
And this Friday! POTC2 is finally almost here! Over two years we've all been waiting for this! We're going to the 12:01am show Thursday night/Friday morning in full regalia and I cannot wait. Yeah, I can make it home by 3am and be to work by 8am. *rolls eyes* We've been watching spoiler clips over on
youtube.com and I am dying here! They may have to call the medics.
Missed you all.
