Feeling rather 'cabin fever'/'spring cleaning'-y today. The weather has been nice and though it took a turn for cold this week, it's still sunny and snow-less and it's got my "planning things for summer" thinking cap going full speed.
Spent the night Friday with Jon at K&M's, though I fell asleep rather unceremoniously on the couch while the other three partied. Yesterday afternoon Jon napped off a hangover and I baked a cake, cleaned up the kitchen, did some reading. I went climbing this morning and then ran errands, cleaned out my car, worked on a painting/crafty project that is afoot (eventually to be a tea storage box), as well as taking the dog to a nearby woodsy park with Jon and walking just over a mile on the mountain biking track therein.
Work is work, as always. It is a continuous process of disentangling my emotions and sense of personal responsibility from my professional obligations. I think I have gotten better at it, though.
We are not moving to Milwaukee. There was serious contemplation for quite some time, due to family (Jon's) and the cabin in northern WI and general desire for change. But we are not moving, at least not there and not now.
We have paid off all the student loans as of about 6 or 9 months ago and we are now tackling our not-insubstantial car loans (eta <1 year). Buying a house in the next couple of years has been discussed but there is absolutely no urgency to the situation-- even less for me than there is for Jon.
We WILL be moving apartments this summer, though. We seem to be incapable of keeping any rental for longer than two years, mostly prompted by job relocations and general antsy-ness. I am sick of moving but Jon's commute is a little ridiculous right now so here we go again.
Dog is dog. Perpetually anxious and lazy but exponentially more happy and well-adjusted than when she began her tenure with us.
After several months of mild or intermittent symptoms, I appear to have developed a real live case of Piriformis syndrome (though diagnosed only via Internet and remnants of massage schooling). It makes me feel old, though my actual quality of life is not significantly impacted. The range of motion in my hips has decreased notably in the past year as well; it's not clear to what degree any of that is related. Likely just not enough stretching and too much repetitive motion/posture issues.
Plans for this summer thus far include:
-Opening up the cabin (and taking stock for possible selling thereof) over Memorial Day weekend
-Colored belt camp in early June, with a full weekend of actual tent camping included
-Fourth of July at an undetermined location
-Braley reunion at the end of July...likely to be camping again!! :) Also likely to involve Kay
-Flogging Molly returns to Minneapolis is August!!!! On a Wednesday...I have already requested the following day off work.
-Possible trip to Colorado for wedding anniversary. That is quite up in the air RE: finances and time off work.
-Running the 'Rugged Maniac' obstacle course/5k again this year with K&M, same as last.
8 books done for the year: Pierce's 'Circle of Magic' 4x, "This is how you lose her" by Junot Diaz (a Christmas gift, and a most excellent one!), and three volumes of Naomi Novik's "Temeraire" series (the best/most original fantasy I've read in quite some time, and the most immediately engaging since I read all three Hunger Games in one weekend a few years ago). Currently halfway through Marco Pierre White's 'The Devil In the Kitchen' and still working on Cordelia Fine's 'Delusions of Gender' (which was set aside for the ravenous consumption of fiction).
For now, bath and putting away laundry for the work week again.
Ciao.
