Everything is...as well as can be expected, I suppose.

Thank you. Really. I'm not sure what there is to talk about, though.

Anything you'd like, really. I'm an excellent listener.

I know you are. I hate that you were put in this position, though.

There's no need to think of it like that. I certainly don't mind chatting with you.

I had actually wanted to talk to somebody about something myself. I'm a bit disappointed, actually, as I thought I had an excellent wardening idea, but Mr. Spinola wasn't at all interested. I'm not sure where I went wrong.

Thank you, Constable.

Sometimes they don't like the ideas because they're not ready for them yet.

What was the idea?

Well, we had spoken before about how he had wanted to be a writer, and I've given that some thought myself. And I figured it might not seem so silly if we wrote something together. Well not together, but in the same room as one another, and then shared our progress. But it turns out he isn't interested in writing anymore. He has "gotten over it".

I'm a bit confused because we didn't speak about it that long ago.

That's very strange. I think it's a good idea, but...maybe he just doesn't want to fail? Or...well, I have no idea.

Did you ask him what changed his mind? People don't "get over" something without reason.

I'm sorry, I don't want to pry into his business. But...it might help to ask that?

I thought so too. And I did ask, and he just seems convinced he has grown out of it; found better uses for his time. I suppose interests do change...

Maybe you're right. But, if it's something he wanted to do at one point, then maybe there will be renewed interest in it soon!

I do worry that, like you said, he's afraid to fail at it.

Well, that's definitely something to work on, then. He needs to feel successful before he'll attempt anything else, right?

I wouldn't have thought Mr. Spinola thought himself to be unsuccessful, though.

I don't know him, Constable. So...I can't really say anything about that.

He's very clever, and he wants to be involved in everything. I'm not certain he sleeps.

What sorts of things do you do with...I'm sorry, I don't know her name.
