A month after Ed had come back to him, a month of loving attention, Roy remembered the date. Oct. 3rd. The same date that was still firmly inscribed into Ed's pocket watch. Roy had expected Ed to be remorseful, but when he returned home to find Ed sitting quietly in the living room with a book, he felt relieved.
"Edward?" He asked quietly. The younger alchemist looked up in mild surprise. That's when he realized that Ed wasn't just reading a book. His eyes held a blank look that almost held no recognition in them.
"C-colonel?" The fact that Ed was using his old title said a lot for the state of mind the boy was in.
"Edward, it's the General, remember?" Roy sat down next him while Ed puzzled at the General's words.
"When'd you get promoted?" He asked dumbly.
"Ah." Roy wasn't sure how to respond. "Do you know why you're here?"
"No." He cocked his head to the side, "Where am I?"
"You're at my house...you've been here for a month."
"A month! What about Al?" There was panic in his voice.
"Al's fine. He's been staying with Havoc." He was afraid to say that Al had been living on his own for several years. "You've been sick. Why don't you go lay down and get some sleep?" Numbly, Ed moved up the stairs and to the bed room. He fell asleep and didn't wake for several hours.

When Ed woke, he felt groggy and his brain felt cobwebby. "Roy?" He looked around and when he spotted the man, he only noticed one thing, that he was crying. "Roy?!"
The man froze and wiped his face before turning towards Ed, "Ed?" He asked cautiously.
"Why're you crying?" Ed asked in a confused tone.
"Ed, do you know what today's date is?" When Ed shook his head 'no', Roy continued, "It's the third. Well, it's almost over now..."
"It snuck up on me. I should've warned you." Ed had done this a few times in the past on October 3rd, but Al had been there for those. "But why were you crying?"
"Because, I feel sorry for the many years you lived through this day like this. That I wasn't there...couldn't be there." Ed scooted over to him, wrapping his arms around him.
"No, don't. Al and I mourned the loss of our mother, and I mourned the loss of Al's body on top of it. The fact of the matter is that now you can be there. That hasn't happened in a long time. I think it was just that I almost forgot about it...and it took me back."
"You sound like you're giving an elegy."
"I am." He replied simply.
