Did we just...win a game?

Jon Lester. Wow. I really don't even know where to begin with this one. For the third game in a row, the Sox got a downright brilliant pitching performance from their starter - and this time, the offense came through in the clutch. It took them nine innings to do it, but Papi walked, and Manny and Youk batted him in. Roy Halladay was equally impressive until the ninth inning, when he allowed Papi to score, and thus the winner of tonight's game was Jonathan Papelbon, who worked a lovely hold with help from Dustin Pedroia in the top of the ninth.

It was beautiful. Gorgeous. Exactly the type of win these boys needed.

Oregonian Synergy was on the bench tonight, as Jacoby had a very, very slight groin injury and Tito decided that he would let Jed stay with him to keep his morale up. This plan seemed to work, as according to a poster on tonight's Center Field game thread, NESN showed a shot of an unusually giggly Jacoby before the game. You know it was because Jed said something to him about beaver meat just before that.

And it's nice to see Mike Lowell back, on that note, even if it means that Jed's days in Boston are numbered. I'm very, very proud of what he's done this year; he's filled in wonderfully. I think the joyride will be over by the end of the week, though. It looks like Pawtucket could use his clutch bat, anyway.

In other Stanford news, Sam Fuld is back (as of last night) - he'd been out of Iowa's lineup for some time, and I couldn't find any information on why. Either way, I'm watching Iowa take on Fresno on Gameday, and Sam knocked a single just a moment ago. Missed you, Henry Chadwick!

...he just got caught stealing second base. Eh, at least you're back, Sammy. That's what really matters.
