I bought George Kottaras at Wal-Mart!

I was quite a busy person today, what with my family finally being here (my kid brother and I played Oregon Trail, and he very maturely decided to name our party leader 'Douche,' because that's what you do at his age), so between that and class I missed the game today. I know the Sox lost, but I have also read such lovely news about Justin - namely, that he pitched brilliantly. Despite the loss, I'm happy, because a guy from Portland coming up and pitching that well is a win in my prospect-obsessed book. See why we didn't trade him and Jed for Santana now? It makes sense, doesn't it?

Now let me explain the title of my entry. We stopped at Wal-Mart to pick up various things, and I knew from experience that one of the registers always has sports cards stocked up near it. I went and checked it, and they were selling - get this - Minor League baseball cards. So of course I bought a box of them. I got five Sox prospects in there, and I've scanned them in, which is why they look rather grainy. The scans here consist of the Sox prospects and any Pac-10 graduates that were in the box. (I am totally going back for more. See, it's also a cheap way to get autographs, because each box set comes with a card that's been actually signed. It's not a printed signature - it's real. In this particular box, I picked up Jordan Zimmerman's signature.)

So without further ado, cards!

Georgie Sparkles! YES! I was so excited to see him in there...He doesn't look sparkly enough, though. I'm convinced his card should be holographic.

Michael Almanzar. He's only seventeen, apparently, and he signed at the age of sixteen. His SoxProspects.com page is here. Check him out - I found the scouting report pretty interesting.

Anthony Rizzo, the Greenville Drive's current first baseman (and he's only eighteen!). His SoxProspects.com scouting report is here.

For whatever reason, Hunter Jones is holographic. I'm really confused. Also, the card is out of date, as he's in Portland now. Either way, that's a very shiny pair of goggles.

LARS! I was so excited to get him! I'm really looking forward to watching him move up through the Minors (he's projected to be up in Portland by the end of this year, with Aaron Bates moving up to Pawtucket), and he just has the most magnificent swing...I can even forgive him for initially being committed to Cal because he didn't go.

Speaking of the Pac-10 Conference, I also picked up Jordan Brown, whose player journal I've been following (if only because he makes fun of his U of A teammates in it, such as Portland, Oregon native Trevor Crowe):

Jordan is in Cleveland's farm system. Here he's listed as being in Akron - he's moved up a level since this was printed.

Also, it's officially my birthday now because it's past midnight (April 25th being my official date of birth), but between Masterson getting the start today and my family coming out to visit I almost forgot it. I'm pathetic like that.
