Old School Civil War Baseball

Apr 19, 2008 17:30

We finished playing roughly an hour ago (mostly because we ran out of players), so here's a little footage I was able to get from my position behind the plate. I caught for both sides, as I did last time, so my legs (especially my knees) are now killing me. I probably will not do too much walking for the rest of the evening.

So without further ado, here's some video of us playing ball:

This is the game ball, actually. It's a basic lemon peel design, and it usually falls somewhat apart when we play. The stitches tend to come a little undone...

That was our playing field. We had a couple of non-reenactors joining us today and we still didn't have enough players. And we couldn't find our bat, so we had to use big sticks as bats today. It was...interesting.

Now for some video!

The voice you hear in the back of most of these videos is mine, by the way. I did indeed have something like fifty passed balls today - but hey, I also had no glove and was wearing a gigantic dress, so...

There we are! I enjoy doing this so much - and hopefully by the next time we play, I'll have a real uniform to play in. The dress just makes things a little difficult...But I like being the world's only left-handed catcher! It's so fun!

Also, Jed needs to stop being this damn adorable. NOW. He makes me lose the ability to properly function.

(That article mentions that Jed was blocked at shortstop at Stanford by a senior - that was Tobin Swope. Is it sad that I knew that without needing to look it up?)
