Sam Fuld saves Dallas from the Albuquerque Isotopes
So today for whatever reason my history class proved inspirational once again and I ended up producing a short installation of the Pawtucket Chronicles. I suppose in this instance we have the Pawtucket-and-Iowa Chronicles, though, because this is a little off-season bit in which Jed is hanging out with one of his old college teammates, Sam Fuld. There's a reason for this - Sam makes this whole thing work, because without him this really wouldn't add up.
You see, there's a Minor League team called the Albuquerque Isotopes. Sam has played against them. Now, yesterday I came across something very, very funny involving isotopes, so naturally I put two and two together at the worst possible time - in class. For this to fully make sense, you need to either listen to this or read it in its text form. Peter Chimaera, the author, is a questionable figure - I cannot for the life of me determine whether he is a true troll or merely a deluded maniac. Either way, the old fellow has lent himself quite well to internet humor, and he is now a very important part of the badfic canon.
I love internet humor - some people totally get it, whilst others don't. My roommate, for example, is one person who I doubt would truly understand internet humor. She believes that there has to be a meaning in every form of media she encounters, be it music or movies (she picks films she wants to watch based on their IMDB.com ratings), and so probably would not care for the delightful irreverence of, say, cat macros with the word FAIL written across them in bold Impact font or the famous mistranslation that led to 'All Your Base Are Belong To Us.' I, on the other hand, am a huge dork, and therefore this sort of comedy is highly appealing to me. That is why I have become completely addicted to listening to the recording of Chimaera's Quarter-Life: Halfway to Destruction over and over again - it makes me laugh ridiculously hard.
Sam and Jed are two of the geekiest ballplayers in the world, so there is no doubt in my mind that they would see the humor in that story. I'm sure even noted science genius Chris Carter would find it amusing (because, after all, he has to find something out there funny). So, long story short, Sam and Jed develop a very dorky inside joke out of one of Peter Chimaera's finest works.
