And then John was a zombie.

As I thought I would when I originally found it, I remembered this in two out of my three classes today and laughed both times. It was awkward, but I was able to hide it on both occasions. I was reminded of something that I used to use as a writing exercise, actually - something called the Insanity Test.

This is it. The rules are simple - make sure your computer speakers are on, then stare at the picture for sixty seconds. If you crack up, you're considered 'insane.' I have been attempting to pass this since seventh grade and have yet to succeed once, which is very pathetic (and probably says something about me).

I later developed this into a character development exercise in which I would play "pass/fail" with my friends - we would take lists of characters and determine whether they would pass or fail the Insanity Test. It was a simple gauge of characters' senses of humor (something I admit to having a bit of a fascination with), and it could become very amusing - with characters lacking in an ability to deadpan (the fellow on the left comes to mind), we would try to determine how long it would take them to lose it and start giggling hysterically. It was ridiculously fun, and I could honestly waste hours doing it.

So how about we play a little "pass/fail" right now? Can you think of any ringers to pass this thing with flying colors? And on the other hand, who will go down immediately? (Jed is obvious, so let's just move on...) It's a fun way to pass some time before the game...

Oh, before I forget - the title of this entry comes from an epic story entitled Doom - Repercussions of Evil by Peter Chimaera. I'll reproduce the text beneath a cut...

DOOM: Repercussions of Evil

John Stalvern waited. The lights above him blinked and sparked out of the air. There were demons in the base. He didn't see them, but had expected them now for years. His warnings to Cernel Joson were not listenend to and now it was too late. Far too late for now, anyway.
John was a space marine for fourteen years. When he was young he watched the spaceships and he said to dad "I want to be on the ships daddy."
Dad said "No! You will BE KILL BY DEMONS"
There was a time when he believed him. Then as he got oldered he stopped. But now in the space station base of the UAC he knew there were demons.
"This is Joson" the radio crackered. "You must fight the demons!"
So John gotted his palsma rifle and blew up the wall.
"HE GOING TO KILL US" said the demons
"I will shoot at him" said the cyberdemon and he fired the rocket missiles. John plasmaed at him and tried to blew him up. But then the ceiling fell and they were trapped and not able to kill.
"No! I must kill the demons" he shouted
The radio said "No, John. You are the demons"
And then John was a zombie.
So there we go. If that text was the Insanity Test, I'd still fail each and every time.
