I've got two very important announcements from the Oregon Squad this morning:
Okay, so maybe you've heard the first one -
Jed's been called up, and he's filling in for Mike Lowell until Mike's finger heals. But the second one is going to be slightly less publicized...
Jacoby is officially a rookie. He's accumulated enough at-bats (over 130) to graduate from prospectdom! Congratulations, Jacoby!
And Jed is there for yet another significant experience in Jacoby's life. So far they've played together in high school, played against each other in college (during which time Jacoby ran into a wall trying to make a catch and wound up with a concussion...in a game against Stanford), were drafted together, have been in the Minors together (which often involved bets involving mohawks, apparently), were in Pawtucket together when Jacoby was re-called from the Minors (along with Clay, who immediately went and threw a no-hitter), and now this.
You know, it's a bit surreal to see
this page without Jacoby on it. That means that Justin Masterson is now the No. 2 prospect in the organization, by the way. His power grows. When Clay graduates later this season, that will mean that Justin will be the top prospect in the farm system. Scary thought, isn't it? But it is kind of awesome at the same time.
Tonight's starter is Mihashi Ren Clay Buchholz - it'll be his first taste of the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry whilst being on the field. But the most exciting part of this game? There could be three members of the Class of '05 out there at the same time. That's exactly what having a good farm system is all about.
And just because I can:
Screencapped from
here. Just scroll down to find the video with Clay...even though they misspelled his last name. Again. Argh.
EDIT: I forgot to mention this, but by some weird serendipity...Oregon State is playing Stanford this weekend. And Jacoby and Jed are in the same place. Oh, what fun this will be!
