I have made a discovery today: it is impossible to say the words "Jonathan Papelbon wore a kilt" without smiling. In fact, I'm grinning as I type this up right now.
Yes, I actually skipped lunch to watch the parade on the internet. I sat there for about three hours, streaming the video, until I had to go to class. And after class, I went on a little excursion.
We went on our pilgrimage to Taco Bell today, which was roughly half an hour away from where we were, but it was worth it. I will go into more detail later, once I have the photograph one of us took of the event to show you all (yes, we did get someone to take a picture of us!), but for now just be content with the fact that Jacoby got his, too:

I also think that everyone in the entire world should see this:

Oh, and Paps also displayed a talent that I only believed Dustin Thatcher had: the ability to play the piano backwards.

You see, Thatcher learned how to do that for music hall purposes just in case he never made it as a concert pianist. He wanted to do something funny with the piano, and so he taught himself how to play Mozart backwards (like Paps is doing right there). The only way this could have amused me more is if Pedroia did it, because then...well, you know.
This was one of the best days I've had since...well, Sunday, I won't lie. But it was great to watch the team today as they thanked their fans, some of them possibly for the last time, some of them for the first. There were a few highlights besides the ones I've listed above, though...
~ Mike Timlin brought Parlay the Parrot and one of the bullpen's pirate flags with him, and he attached them to the float carrying himself, Okajima, Papelbon and the Dropkick Murphys. That, my friends, is how you win the universe.
~
The perpetual grin on Pedroia's face was priceless. I've noticed that he really tries hard not to look awed and overwhelmed, but this time I don't think he could help it.
~ The fans were chanting, "Re-sign Lowell!" and, "Don't sign A-Rod!" all up and down the route. One of them even handed Varitek a sign which read "Re-sign Lowell," and Tek held it up so everyone - including you, Theo - could see it. See that? Tek is very smart.
~ My only complaint? The parade planners separated Josh Beckett and Jonathan Papelbon, so they didn't get to dance together. The Dropkick Murphys even had Josh's kilt ready and everything...Papelbon did dance with Timlin and Okajima, but it wasn't the same.
~ Seeing the older players - way cool. It's great that they got to enjoy the celebration, too! They totally deserved it.
~ How many "Marry me, Jacoby" signs did you count? Someone tell Grady's Ladies and Chase's Chicks that there's a new bishounen baseball player in town - and he even gives out free tacos!
~ But the best part? We might see this again next year if we play our cards right.
In addition to all of this, I also got my fictional Bostonian cohort Elisa Robbins to do a little write-up on her thoughts about all this and "convinced" her (as in I forced her to because she's fictional so I can make her do whatever I want her to) to post it on
konbini_comics. Once that's typed up, I'll link you - she even talks about her mission to get Thatcher to warm to baseball.
That's really all there is for now, but just wait until I get that picture back...you'll get to see me with a free taco soon enough!
(P.S. -
Grady Little resigned as the manager of the Dodgers! The article says Joe Torre might get the job...hmm, interesting!)
