(chews on her glove ala Clay Buchholz)

Well, tonight's the night. It is effectively this weekend that could determine what happens in the postseason this year.

Tonight, the Sox open their final three games against the Yankees this year. It'll be Matsuzaka going up against Pettite, followed by a literal battle for the Cy Young Award (Beckett vs. Wang) and finally Clemens vs. Schilling, presuming Clemens is a lock for Sunday. If he does end up pulling out at the last minute, he will likely be replaced by Hughes (when I heard this, the first thought in my rookie-obsessed mind was, "If they do that, we should pull Curt and put in Clay Buchholz!"). Good news from 12eight: If the Sox win two out of three, they can effectively capture the division if they play at least .500 ball afterwards.

And trust me, when I say rookie-obsessed, I mean it. After watching that video yesterday, there is no doubt in my mind that they're all friends from their days as minor leaguers and probably spend a lot of time together. What they do with that time is completely up to our imaginations, but it's fun to come up with stupid things for them to do and then picture them being chided for doing them by veteran players.

Before the Yankees lost to the Toronto Blue Jays last night, MLB.com ran an article with the headline "Yankees plan on streaking their way to Fenway." That is not a pretty mental image, although the one that developed soon after (the five stars of the future in the above-mentioned video finding the headline, misinterpreting it the way I did, and then proceeding to make fun of it) was quite pleasant and amusing. It's one of those things that belongs on Jay Leno's Headlines feature, where he takes poorly-written headlines and lines in news articles and reads them aloud on television on Monday nights. Headlines is one of my favorite features of any late-night talk show, and now I've finally got some fodder for Leno's cannon. Unfortunately, it's an online article, so it may be a bit problematic to send it in. (Want proof that the headline said what it did? Here's my screenshot of it.)

The only other offering I have today is a crudely-drawn set of sketches summarizing the comeback win on Jacoby's birthday back on Tuesday. I drew this over the course of a few days (often doodling it during classes when I had a few minutes, hence the reason it's on lined paper and not in my sketchbook) and almost completely from memory, so if some of the people involved look a bit off, that's why. I'm pretty sure Gagne has changed his hairstyle, for example, but I drew him the way I did anyway because I didn't have a reference picture in front of me. The last two sketches are also a bit faint - I apologize!

That being said, enjoy.
