Good news on the Niesen front - he's almost completely recovered from his concussion! After he
tweeted earlier ("At the philly airport, do I get a philly cheese steak I think soo!"), I decided to check up on him because that made it sound like he was back with the team.
Turns out he is.
The contents of a baseball player's locker can range from the practical, to the sentimental, to the comical.
Shaving cream and deodorant are essential. A change of clothes and a couple of pairs of shoes are common. Sometimes there are pictures of family. Sometimes there are inspirational messages.
And sometimes there's a display of humor.
Such is the case for Binghamton Mets pitcher Eric Niesen, who has a blue skateboarding helmet with dark blue speckles and a neon yellow chin strap dangling in his locker.
"I figured it was my way of letting the guys know I was ready to go again," said a grinning Niesen, who may be ready to pitch again in a week or two.
"It never stops around here," catcher Mike Nickeas deadpanned.
This is extremely good news. Binghamton's rotation has been floundering without Niesen, especially since Dylan Owen has moved up to Buffalo and none of the remaining starters are particularly effective at the moment. Niesen will provide the rotation with a successful starter, something sorely needed by the ailing B-Mets. But most important is that Niesen has his health back. See you soon!
Also, because I know you care, I dug up
his college page from Wake Forest. Business major!
