I got a meme from
hanachan01 in which I have to list ten songs from my music library beginning with a specific letter. She gave me 'B' to use, so here we go. Now for how this works - if you comment, you get a letter and then you get to take the meme, too.
Bitchin' Camaro by the Dead Milkmen: Apparently this was mandatory. This is easily one of the funniest songs in my library, and not just because it occasionally reminds me of the demon child that is Fiorella Azzara (who I haven't mentioned in ages, I know. For those unaware, I'll introduce you soon now that my scanner works). It starts off with a conversation, which leads into going down the shore (a New Jersey term for going to the beach for those of you who don't live in New Jersey). Once the mode of transportation has been announced ("I've got a bitchin' Camaro"), the actual song begins with the wonderfully memorable line, "Bitchin' Camaro, bitchin' Camaro, I ran over my neighbors." Seriously, this song never fails to crack me up.
Big Shot by Billy Joel: I'm a sucker for anyone who plays the piano, as those who know me well are quite aware of by now, but this song has always reminded me of a character from one of the Dortmunder books, Max Fairbanks. (He's the villain from What's The Worst? I refuse to write the full title of that book because every time I do something incredibly awful happens to me.) Yes, I know I haven't talked about Dortmunder in months, which is regrettable because those books are hysterically funny, so here you go.
The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel: This is honestly one of my favorite songs by Simon and Garfunkel. (My official favorite is The Only Living Boy in New York, though.) I just love how this evokes someone trying to make it in the city - it's true that some people make it big, whilst some people just get by, but you have to love how the narrator hangs in there. I added this song to the unofficial Londinium soundtrack because it captures the lives of some of the characters who aren't as well-off as they would like to be.
Bronson Arroyo's cover of Black by Pearl Jam: Bronson was on my 2004 World Series team. Enough said. Actually, he's a genuinely talented musician, so he deserves a mention here. (If you didn't know, Bronson is a pitcher who helped the Sox win the World Series a few years ago and is currently playing in Cincinnati.) Go pick up Covering the Bases (his album) - it's totally worth it! The cover of Dirty Water with help from three other players, two of whom are no longer on the team (Johnny Damon and Lenny DiNardo) and one who still is (Youk), is my favorite track overall, but that song doesn't begin with 'B.' Grrr.
Boom Bang-a-Bang by Lulu:
Because the video from the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest involving this song cracks me up so bad. Actually, as an American, I have found myself fascinated by Eurovision of late. I seriously regret not being able to see it here - from what I've heard, it's got excellent humor value. In the version of the song I have, though, Lulu does not shout, "Ole!" at the end. (I do find myself mentally adding it from time to time, though...hmm...)
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen: Do I have to say anything about this song? It's a classic.
Brave Sir Robin by one of Robin's minstrels (whom was later eaten; yaaaaaay): Let's be honest, my life seems to revolve around British comedy sometimes. Not including this would have been a sin. And speaking of comedy songs that begin with this letter...
Bedazzled by Drimble Wedge and the Vegetation: You fill me with inertia.
(That is the funniest song in my library, ladies and gentlemen.)
Butterflies and Hurricanes by Muse: Eh,
hanachan01 and I named a comic after it, so it's sort of required, too. Muse captures the sound of one of the main bands in the story, the Fat Flamingoes, so anyone interested in Koi and Noeru's music should go listen to some Muse to get an idea of what they're doing. I absolutely love the piano solo in the middle, but...well, we all know how I feel about pianos by this point in time, don't we?
Band on the Run by Wings: I haven't said much about Paul McCartney lately, either, have I? Well, here's a lovely sample of his work with Wings. This song is incredibly inspired, and from what I've read it was proof that Paul hadn't lost his muse after the breakup of the Beatles. (Apparently, the line "If we ever get out of here" was contributed by George Harrison, but then again, I read that on Wikipedia. I'm hoping it's true, because I love George. C'mon, the man was friends with Eric Idle and he liked Formula One!)
Right, so there's my ten. Feel free to comment! I'm off to prepare for the Sox-Yanks game tonight...I can't wait! (Go Daisuke!)
EDIT:
This is a total gem of an interview between Dudley Moore and Jonathan Miller from 1978. Watch it. EDIT 2: Apparently Dustin Thatcher Pedroia (I need to stop doing that...sorry to both Dustins) just did a barrel roll. Does anyone here besides me remember Peppy from StarFox? In StarFox 64 he notably would repeatedly yell, "Do a barrel roll!" in an obnoxious drawl. All I know is that
this post on the official Sox community made me laugh waaaay too hard.
