Between my two teams it's like I'm watching a bunch of zombies.

Not that I have anything against the occult, of course, but zombies aren't always the best ballplayers, if you catch my drift.

This has been a very difficult season for me. In 2006, when the Sox were starting to slip and eventually didn't make the playoffs, I had my National League team to cheer me up. They ended up playing seven well-fought games against the eventual World Series Champion Cardinals in an NLCS for the ages. There is a picture of Endy Chavez making his famous catch in my basement.

This year is entirely different. The Sox started out brilliantly, but they're starting to slide again in a 2006-esque fashion that is making me worry. And the Mets...well, they're all hurt. Over 50% of their starting regulars are currently on the DL, so they're essentially playing with a glorified AAA club and Wright, Pagan, Santana and my personal favorite, Daniel Murphy. Watching them attempt to play has been painful because the Mets have no farm system to speak of, so most of these kids are horribly overmatched and it shows. (As a Sox fan, their farm system makes me cringe because the Sox minor leaguers are raised and fostered so brilliantly.) At least I knew most of the prospects' names.

In addition, two of my three favorite players have taken serious hits this year. As anyone who knows me knows, my forever favorite is Jed Lowrie, and he's had wrist issues all year and is now benched with a pinched nerve in his elbow. My favorite Mets prospect, Jonathon Niese, was pitching wonderfully and recently went down with a gut-wrenching hamstring injury that made me cry on my sofa. And although he's been healthy the whole year, Murph hasn't always gotten the opportunity to play every day, and his legendary hitting has been slumping as a result.

I don't know how I keep watching, but I do. Something good has to happen if I keep watching, right? Doesn't it?

(Random, but I need a Murph icon and I don't have one. This is tragic.)

EDIT: Damnit, I had to find this! He's so damn cute...

It's official. It's love.

EDIT 2: ...if this is actually Jeff Francoeur I am going to die.
