I just watched the end of the second (and honestly, much less pleasing) Subway Series game in New York (why did I have to miss the good one?) right now even though the score is lopsided. It's baseball and it's on my TV, so it's therefore a requirement.
I love this game way too much sometimes.
This year, I've decided to keep up with Summer Koshien (the National High School Baseball Championship). I watched both the Men's and Women's College World Series this year, and I'll watch the Little League World Series, like I do every year, when it's on. I'm adding more baseball to my agenda. I am beginning to wonder if I am too fixated. Then again, it's baseball, so probably not. It's just one of the most beautiful things on the face of the earth.
And I am still completely intrigued by Yu Darvish. I was reading
this article on the potential for a Japanese manager to come to the U.S. to manage an American baseball team (it's actually a really interesting read), and I noticed this throwaway line:
Maybe it'll be the Yankees or Red Sox, who are coming off the Dice-K sweepstakes and gearing up for a Darvish derby.
Yu Darvish is not going to be posted this year. He's still got plenty of time to play for the Nippon Ham Fighters - he's still incredibly young and will be there for several more years. In addition, he has not shown any interest in playing in the United States at this time - he actually has come out and said that he would prefer to remain in Japan for the time being. If there is going to be a so-called "Darvish derby," it won't be for a very long time.
But I don't blame people for getting ahead of themselves here. Have you see this kid's stuff?
