Like a Knight in Shining Armor

I defended my thesis this weekend. What a lovely and painful experience that was. Lovely because it is finally finished, and painful because it is finally finished and now what am I supposed to do? Oh, I suppose graduate from the rest of college...but how much less exciting is that? The defense was for my Honor's College thesis on Anne Sexton, an American poet from the sixties. Basically, the past year has included weekly meetings with my amazing thesis director, where we spent hours discussing Sexton, reading her work and writing our own, and basically just chatting about her and our own lives. Definitely an experience unlike any other while in college, and definitely one that I will never forget. So, after a year of blood, sweat, laughter and oh so many tears, I finished the book [of my own poetry, based off Sexton's life and work], and was able to show it off to the world on Friday. My wonderful Jonathan sat by my nervous side as I stood at the podium, reading from the chapbook, and then answering the barrage of questions my thesis committee had prepared, which I, if I do say so myself, answered quite poised and gracefully. The audience-- friends from the program, friends from outside the program, even my Grandparents-- were very receptive and provided me with the courage to defend Miss Sexton like a knight in super shining armor. It was absolutely my proudest moment thus far, being able to read my own work in the Piper house to the most prominent figures in the English department. And I do believe we were triumphant.

Now, to wrap up the rest of college in the next six weeks will be an adventure like no other. I already bought my cap and gown so I suppose there is no turning back now.
