Hmmm.....
Well lets just say, I'm not going to pay $4 to see Rarae Avis again. I got there with Justin around 7:30. Meg, Justin, and I went inside and payed. We overheard the people managing it that none of the bands have shown up yet. Hmm... interesting. Rarae Avis finally showed, and so did Atkins Lane. Joey's Loss was well, a loss (they never showed) and Kremlin didnt show either.
Rarae Avis: Not only does their name confuse EVERYONE in how to say it (Rare-ee Ay-vuhs) their band also confuse me in what the hell they are trying to do. Lets just say, if you ask me if id ever pay $4 to see Rarae Avis again, id say hell no. If you asked me if i'd pay $4 to see the drummer, Jarrett Blankenship, take his shirt off, id say HELL YEAH! They started to play around 9:40. It took them at least (and i mean least) 30 minutes to set up. They had the least amount of equipment ive ever seen a band set up yet it took them forever. That made me mad. So anyways, Ben Fama is the lead guitarist in the band (someone correct me if im wrong please). The first song they played was I assume an intro. It was very um... interesting's the word i guess. The little solo Ben played, i could play... thats really pathetic. They sucked at stage performance and the lead singer/guitarist (which his name is not available on the site) was not the best at speaking to the crowd. The drummer missed his cymbal cues a few times. The bassist uses a pick, that automatically causes you to lose points with me. I wasnt impressed with them at all. The last two songs were the only ones that i found somewhat entertaining. One of the songs I had previously heard on their cd (me and mike were listening to them in his car a while back) was one of the last they played. And i really enjoyed that one, but the very last one had the most annoying bass line, I dont know, it just didnt hit me right. At the very end of the song they put all their guitars up against their amps and let the feedback come for about 2-3 minutes. It hurt my ears, and it wasnt a cool thing to do, i mean like it wasnt all "ooooh look at us branch out and do something different" b.c. lately ive seen that from every other band. I dunno, i just wasnt impressed. Though their cd sounds really good, the live show, well it sucked. As a whole they're lyrics arent that deep and ive heard it from every other band i guess you could say. One song's intro reminded me of
North Star. Rarae Avis is signed to
Yellow Dog Music.
Craig Kleemann: Craig Kleemann, well I can see now why Lyndsey is so obsessed with him. Craig played a couple new songs (based on his life he said). He is an awesome guitarist. He was on the whole time, and his voice really matches the style he's going for. I'm really really impressed with his stage performance (he knows how to interact with the crowd). He knows how to entertain. And he did his job well. You can listen to a couple of his mp3's on his site.
Atkins Lane: Wow, well if you like that punk vibe you should definetly check out Atkins Lane. The rhythm guitarist has the
preeeeeettiest pink les paul EVER! With their new cd being just released im pretty sure they are out touring alot ( check out their upcoming shows
link ) Anyways, the lead guitarist is really really amazing. He had some killer solos, i was in awe of him. He was hot too haha. The singer, Daniel McLean, is one crazy guy. He has the craziest dance moves and the band as a whole had a great vibe and performance which was a plus. The bassist, Michael O'Brien, has this killer hairdo that reminds me of someone from the 60's. Its awesome. As a whole, I'd say they put on a really good show. But they arent my style. Ah well. Check them out nonetheless if you wish. They are not currently signed to any label.
