adrenalin

i'm seventeen, and i just went to my first concert yesterday. somehow sad, somehow, i don't know if i would've lived through it had i been younger. i don't know who here's been to a concert before, and those who have, i don't know what types. i doubt all concerts are the same. this one was the proverbial "bomb" for me.

first off: the time. the group of five i went with, we went to see green day. but this was the 4th and final day of Nova Rock, so there were three other performances before our band, so the thing started at ...five? and ended officially at ten. of course, that's not counting the encore. i was doing fine by ten, but by the end of the encore (not sure exactly when it ended), i was only jumping because the people mashed against me were moving up and down as well.

that was another thing.. up at the front, where i am very proud to say i was, everybody got mashed together by the people behind them. this was not a good situation to have long hair in. or be shorter than 5'8". i got stuck behind two or three rather tall guys, who's shoulder blades were just at face level for me.. still. i got to see most of the concert. when you're so close to the stage you can feel the heat from the fire in the stage show, you can't really complain too much. Especially after ana read in the paper yesterday that there were around one hundred thousand people there. Wow…

it was actually kind of fun, getting knocked up against strange people. knowing that you're all getting pushed around without much control over who you fall on brings a sense of "togetherness" into the air.. a lot of apologetic smiles, little hand shrugs, and "entschuldigung“s.. my poor feet got stomped on a lot. But in the middle of it all, you just don’t care. Now, two days after, my throat is scratchy, a bit raw, and I’m sore in my arms, my ribs, my hips.. somehow, my feet don’t hurt so much.. a bit odd, it is..

oh, and ana took movies and pictures. With my camera. Don’t worry, it’s still alive.. I didn’t want her to use it, but she forgot to bring her own with her, thinking that my camera was hers and not packing her own. I just wanted pictures of the trip there and back, I suppose. Well, I now have live footage of green day’s nova rock concert on my camera. And I shall be putting up pictures.. sometime on the relatively near future. You people have learned not to expect rapid movement from my end, right?...

who else was there besides me? Ana, of course.. and gernsch… and heike, and chris. Poor heike.. she wasn’t doing so well towards the end of the concert - she couldn’t take it after green day’s fifth song or so. But I think she still had some fun. And I’m sure gernsch and chris enjoyed it, too. I’m really not positive about much, though. After the concert let out, like I said, I was drained. Could barely see straight at first.. had a cramp in the small of my back.. and my arms were pretty hard to lift. But it was oh so worth it.

Actually, though I had “the time of my life”, I’m not sure if I’ll ever go to another concert again. I’m not sure.. maybe with the right people, the right band, the right time and place.. but I’m still so very glad ana and Milan went through so much trouble to pull this concert trip together.

I’m positive there’s more I could write. But that’ll come with time. Or with the pictures. Or with questions. For now, I just have to get this journal entry up before it gets put off any longer.
