SBA airport

my mother used to prefer her westbound flights to take off with snow and ice on the ground if not in the air.  she never really saw the point of flying east.

so it was quite proper that there was still a little clinging to the N side of things this morning.  better yet was the contrast afforded by the airport: the first thing you see on stepping off the aircraft, walking across the tarmac and out of the security zone into the waiting area in front of the terminal is a sign flanked by these birds of paradise
they really know how to rub it in for those coming in from an East Coast winter.

the family plot is on a buff overlooking the Pacific ocean.  the afternoon featured a visit and a chance to place flowers on my parents' and sister's graves, a gesture supplemental to the wildflowers already in situ.

the days ahead will be devoted to family business having to do with estate and trust matters (I don't know how long it will take and haven't even booked a return flight).  a few quiet and peaceful moments in this spot seemed a fitting way to start things off.
