I am house-bound. The Napier shooting syesterday turned in to a huge siege - we've got tanks and Armed Defenders Squads just down the road. We aren't under enough danger to be evacuated, but we aren't allowed to leave our home. I can't go to school (And I wanted to today!!!), I can't even go up the road.
It started at about 9 30 am yesterday, people heard shots being fired, and 1 policeman got killed, and 2 injured, with a civilian too. (Serious language time) We got told at the end of assembly (about 10 15), then were under lockdown from then. We could eat outside, but only in the quad where teachers could see us.
It was ok for me, we watched Mamma Mia, but some kids were really distressed. Maryann Brown was crying, I had Amy on my lap for cudddles. I was a mediator of sorts.
It's so weird, it's like I'm in a different country. This never happens. Worst we get in Napier are rapes and the very occasional suspiciuos muder. Half the city is shut down, 150 people have been evacuated.
I'm about 500 metres away from an armed gunman. But I'm safe. As I said, there's tamks, he army, police from Napier and surrounding cities and Armed Defenders people in SWAT gear.
I'm safe. I'm safe.
Will update later, if my/the situation changes. Check stuff.co.nz for updates too :)
