The Tahirih Justice Center
"The mission of the Tahirih Justice Center is to enable women and girls who faced gender-based violence to access justice. The center engages in direct litigation, public policy advocacy, and education and outreach to ensure systemic change that protects women and girls from violence."
Tahirih was a Persian woman who fought for women's rights in the 1800's, her most notable quote being "You can kill me as soon as you like, but you cannot stop the emancipation of women".
She was killed at the age of 35 for her efforts.
The center that bears her name, located in Falls Church, VA, was established by to aid women seeking asylum and refugee status for reasons relating to their gender - most notably forced polygamous marriage and gender mutilation.
