Alright? Careful, there.
[ his voice is quiet but not too gentle like he's treating him like a child. that took a mighty blow out of him, so much so that he might sound a little weak. ]

[The voice snapped him out of his repeating thoughts of his dream as he looked over to where it came from. He fumbled with the Dremaberry a bit as he picked it up, still breathing a bit heavily but better than when he shot awake]
... I'm fine.
[If anything it sounds like he's trying to convince himself of the fact]
Well, at times... it may be better to admit you're not. It's alright to be like this, there's no shame in it, and there's no need to be strong every single second of the day.
[There's a small moment of silence on his end. Talking was helping as it was grounding him to reality but the dream-- no nightmare was still resonating in his head. While his idea sounds good in theory, he can't make sense of it right now in the jumbled state his mind is in]
[ a pause--he lets that sink in, hopes it sinks in, before he starts again. ]
... because that's what nightmares really are--wounds that haven't healed. They're your subconscious, telling you that something's up, and you need to fix it because you haven't already. Sometimes, time--that's all that's needed, but others... maybe you need a smidge of help.
[He's still clutching his chest but what the man says sinks in, just a little. His breathing at a more reasonable pace now than before. If anything, his curiosity is starting to shine through now as this guy mentions nightmares in a way he never thought of before...]
--right, the subconscious! Well, the unconscious mind. Dreams happen during REM sleep, that's a special part of when you're asleep. It's when you're most asleep, you could say it was a "deep" sleep. The images you hold onto that're deep in your brain, maybe they're fears, or desires, or even depression--they, essentially, come out, and just like thinking, they take on a sort of life of their own.
For example: if you had fears of a banana, you might have a dream where you're conquering that fear by vanquishing an evil... banana... dragon, or something along those lines. On the other hand, memories that've affected you greatly can come back to haunt you.
[Listening intently as this was very new to him and a moment of silence as he thinks on what he said. Something that affected him greatly, like a memory gone horribly wrong...]
I see. Then, it's almost as if you're telling yourself to face whatever happened?
Yes. Basically. We've always been told that overcoming fears is inherently good, so your mind would assume that and put it to a situation you're in. Overcome that fear, the hardship, and let yourself heal so you can face what's happened to you, or... [ his voice quiets a bit. ] what you've done.
[ because believe him he's gonna have a talk with Riku to see if any of this dream is actually part memory ]
[Let himself heal? That would mean getting over, forgiving what Riku did to him. Even now he holds a grudge against him and the past few times he was here didn't help that, even if the way he was now was obviously different. While this conversation was helping him get out of his dream, it was also making him somewhat conflicted on what to do]
... Thanks.
[For not asking about that dream or teaching him more about nightmares, who knows, it's probably for both]

[ it's not mocking, not at all--the way he says it is very solemn, as if sharing in Roxas' struggle. ]
Or, at least, that's what I tell myself. It doesn't always... work.

... I'm finding that out.
