Just the entire point of the plot. And changed Kazuo Kiriyama and Shogo Kawada's backstories.

ugh, i always cringe a little whenever a book is adapted to film. it gets ripped apart and made into something the author never intended it to be.

There are good ones sometimes, but yea, typically it sucks. It's really sad when the author of the book did the script for the movie and it still fails.

true, there are some good ones. that is sad. i don't know much about it but i think the case is that generally a studio buys the rights of the book off the author and so usually then the author doesn't get much say in how the movie is made. which is a strange idea.

I think thats how it usually works, but sometimes teh studio will get the author to write the script. I think.
