boys will be boys, and one day they'll figure it out themselves.

s. it's a love triangle, but it's not really, and teenagers will always be confusing.

d. i do not know, nor am i affiliated with, jonghun, hongki, younha, and/or f.t island. none of the events depicted in this story happened.

Hongki watches as they sit side by side, talking, laughing, pressing piano keys, trying to learn each from other, and his brow creases.

This is not a good thing, he thinks.

Except he's not sure why it isn't, because Jonghun is at the right age to be liking someone of the opposite sex, and Younha-sshi, despite being a couple of years older, is kind, and talented and very very cute, and Hongki can't help but notice that she complements Jonghun very very well.

What does he care anyway if the two seem to be getting closer and closer every time they work together?

But Hongki's young, and he's always believed that the young can get anyway with doing and thinking anything because they're young, and this is what he tells himself when he plops down beside Jonghun on the already cramped piano bench, and territorially places an arm around his shoulder.

"What are you guys laughing about?" he asks, grinning wide.

"Oh, hey, Hongki," Jonghun answers, as if surprised at his presence, when Hongki's been in the same room the whole time that two of them have been. "Nothing, really. Piano lessons from hell when we were younger."

"Oh, okay," Hongki watches as the two of them go back to ignoring him, talking about things only they understand, and Hongki hates it, hates feeling left out like this.

"Jonghun," he whines, tugging at the other's sleeve, "come get a drink with me at the vending machine in the hallway."

"Eh?" Jonghun turns, brows furrowed, but still smiling (because he's Jonghun, and he's always smiling at Hongki), "I'm busy, Hongki. Can't you go get drinks by yourself?"

"Come on, Jonghun," Hongki pouts, and he's practically whining, "I don't want to go alone."

"What are you, twelve?" Jonghun laughs, he doesn't really mean any harm with the statement, but Hongki blanches anyway.

"I'll go with you, hyung," Jaejin says, standing from the spot where he was tuning his bass, quick to remedy the the building tension. "I'm thirsty too, anyway."

"Aish! Nevermind, I'll go by myself," Hongki mutters, leaving the room.

When his cola in can dispenses, he decides he really doesn't like this, Jonghun ignoring him. It just doesn't happen. Shouldn't happen.

Jonghun is absentmindedly strumming his guitar as he watches them practice singing their lines, trying to harmonize and blending their voices, but slightly failing at it.

Younha's voice is strangely pitch-y that day, strangely pitch-y with Danbahlmori, but Hongki patiently sings with her, joking around, trying to lighten the atmosphere, because Younha seems to be slowly getting more and more frustrated at herself. In return, Younha is patient with Hongki when teaching him how to pronounce the lines to Way Back Into Love properly.

Younha is a very pretty girl, and Jonghun finds himself wondering if she's Hongki's type. She's two years older, but Jonghun knows that Hongki has no reservations about noona girlfriends.

He remembers Hongki saying that his ideal girlfriend would be someone his opposite - quiet and sweet to his loud and outgoing. Jonghun can't help but think that Younha fits the criteria perfectly.

He doesn't know why it bothers him so much. Or why it bothers him that Hongki hasn't come to him in the last two hours with some sort of outrageous request.

"Hyung, are you okay?" Minhwan asks, handing him a water bottle, "You're spacing out."

"Yeah, I'm good," he answers. "Thanks."

Behind Minhwan, Wonbin throws him a strange, knowing glance, and Jonghun pretends to be busy with his guitar again.

Younha has worked enough times with F.T Island to have at least partially figured the boys out, and one of the things she's figured out is that Jonghun and Hongki are two of the most ridiculous teen-aged boys ever.

She wonders how long they will keep dancing around each other, how long before they figure out that they like each other and that neither is interested in her (and that she's interested in neither, because God help her, she can't take any more of either of them badgering her about what she thinks of the other, because she's really really not interested in them that way, not the way they are). She thinks if she's getting this frustrated at them, then she can only wonder how Jaejin and Wonbin (and Minhwan, although does the kid even have an idea about these things already?) must feel.

"Hey, Jonghun, take me shopping after practice," Hongki says, clinging onto Jonghun, "I hear there's a new winter line clothing at the mall."

"What?" Jonghun says, "Do I really have to?"

"Yes! Take me shopping! Shopping!" Hongki says, grinning at Jonghun like the kid he is.

"Oh fine, fine," Jonghun laughs, "But bring your own money."

Hongki just smiles wide, a gleam in his eye, and making no promises.

"You can also take me to noraebang afterwards."

Younha hears someone sigh in frustration, and looking around, she finds out it's Wonbin, and they exchange a knowing look, and Jaejin shakes his head, and tuts under his breath besides Wonbin.

(Minhwan is obliviously hitting the cymbals on his drum set lightly, unaware of the tense and hushed undertones in the room.)

Sometimes Younha wishes she can just interfere and yell at the two to just get together already, but she knows it's not her place, and boys will be boys, and one day they'll figure it out themselves.

Though hopefully, sooner, rather than later, if only for the sake of everyone's sanity.
