I don't look half bad in this outfit. My hair has more styling gel than I've used in a while, and I'm still getting used to these glasses, but overall, this should do fine. Now to see how they handle it.

....?

No hands-on work? That seems like a better way to truly understand the material.

((OOC: Kyro says "Okay, has he been doing this the entire semester and Mytho just didn't tell me? Because I'm pretty sure he didn't look like this last year when I saw him walking down the halls."
Oh, and Princess Tutu is in ur journal, invaden ur class.))

Not at the moement, no. There's more to illusions than what someone sees. It can tie in with all of the senses, or only a few of them. The sooner all of you understand that, the better off you'll be.

[Laffo XD! I'm waiting for Eidel to show up.]

I...see. I suppose I can wait, then. but it better not take too long.

((OOC: Ooh, dude! Edel would be AWESOME. I can see her being a teacher's assistant or something...))

It's not a matter of supposing in this case, but if it makes you feel better assuming that, be my guest.

(XD!)

Now, if you're finished showing your attitude instead of your reasoning abilites, let's continue. *points at the floor near Kyro's feet and concentrates as an illusion begins to warp into place, eventually spreading out into a small rose bush* Here's a new question: Is it the strength of an illusion or the willingness of someone to believe in it that makes it more realistic?

*frowns slightly and almost considers saying something back to the first statement, but decides to ignore it, looking down at the illusion of the rose bush* ...I'd say that both probably play a factor.

Good! Now the hard part- Can you explain why?

Reply

magicalmophead September 5 2007, 01:30:59 UTC
Well...if your illusion is flawed, people will be able to see through it, even if they wish to believe otherwise. But if your illusion is strong...if someone doesn't want to believe it, they'll look more closely for any mistakes you might have made, any break in the illusion. But if someone wants to believe it's true...they won't look. Nobody is going to look for something that would disappoint them. ...They say ignorance is bliss, after all.

You'd be suprised about what people will and won't look for. Not everyone wants to be fooled, and even a lower skilled illusion can still be effective, if used correctly. *removes glasses, folds and magics them away* Not all illusions require spells, some of them can be done with a chance of clothes, or the way you approach something.

...I see.

So that would be why you're dressed that way?

13oclockking September 5 2007, 01:42:58 UTC
Do you?

I was starting to think none of you would pick up on it.

I'd like to think I know a little about illusions.

So, to paraphrase...illusion doesn't have to be just magic. And you're dressed up that way to prove a point, that...simply by changing your look, you can change people's attitude toward you. Have I gotten the basic concept?

You do.

That sounds fair enough.

*a little smugly* Good. I'm glad I seem to be understanding everything.

You keep telling yourself that. *waves a hand at the rose bush, dismissing it* But your sense of accomplishment is rather refreshing.
