I went to the market the other day with my dad, where I saw my 8th grade science teacher. (She didn't see me.)

I told my dad that this was my least favorite thing about being in a small town, running into people that I knew, and that one of my favorite things about living in Chicago was that it almost never happened. (I once ran into my friend's ex-boyfriend on the el. I knew him, sort of, because we had attended a number of parties together, but we were never really friends. When he saw me, he picked his bag off the seat next to him so I could sit there, and I did, but it was pretty awkward.)

Anyway, my dad told me that was the craziest thing he'd ever heard, that everyone else in the world thinks that living in a place you run into people you know is a good thing.

I find this very hard to believe.

is this the real life?
