I am absolutely terrified of tsunamis, so the visions of the water sweeping over the land is literally my worst nightmare come to life. I felt sick watching, but I couldn't turn it off.
I read a statement from a geologist saying that the Ring of Fire seems to be entering a period of greater activity, and I've already heard some nervous rumbling that we're next.
ETA: ugh, so annoyed with the othering and exoticization of Japanese people on BBC World Service ("is there something in the Japanese culture that can explain why they're so calm in an earthquake?") that I emailed them and told them to stfu. MAYBE THEY'RE TAUGHT HOW TO DEAL WITH QUAKES FROM CHILDHOOD. EVER THINK ABOUT THAT? jesus christ.
