..I.. Well, um. I'd suggest actually listening to the music before you put it down, but honestly? Yes. Lady Gaga makes generic pop music. She makes trashy mainstream music, but that's not all she is. I happen to love her music, and I don't really listen to much pop at all. I listen to classic rock and indie music for the most part, but Gaga has something that I just enjoy.

And as for how she helps people: She's a big supporter of the LGBT community, she's spreading awwareness about AIDs/HIV, she is not shy about her own celibacy. The whole thing about rumors she has a dick? She will not answer yes or no, simply because she feels like, "What's the difference if she does or not?" She is essentially letting people know it's okay to be what you are. Maybe that's not as important to some people as it is to me, but Gaga means a lot to me, and a lot to other people.

And, yes, I enjoy her music. And yes, its the theatrics and the weird crazy shit that she does that draws you in, but the more you learn about her, the more you love her. I am not simply a fan of Gaga's music, I'm a fan of Gaga herself.

I'm not putting her down at all. Comparing her to Beyonce was not an insult, although you seemed to be interpreting it as such. idk. I really do think that on a musical level, they are roughly equivalent in talent and ~artistic interestingness~. (Chrome says "interestingness" is a word, ha!) I can see that you disagree, but in my opinion, it's not a bad thing. No need for defensiveness, I'm not attacking her.

I feel like maybe if I knew about her personality, maybe I'd be more into her, but tbh, I can't be bothered. If she inspires you to be a better person, that's awesome, bb!

It's just...okay, how can I say this? I was thinking that maybe I was missing out on something particularly cool about her musically. I'm beginning to think I'm not. It's more about who she is and what she stands for.

I think it is also her music. I think her music is awesome, I've been listening to it for 3+ months straight on the way to and from work, I never get tired of it. But opinions on music are just that...opinions.

It's hard to weigh in, I think, on why music works for a person. If it's a book or a movie it's easy to say, well I like the writing or this plot or this character, etc. And you can break music down, I guess, lyrically and instrumentally - but I think, also, with music, that it's different for each person, and there is something about it you can't explain. Because music is something you feel in your soul, sorry to sound absolutely cheesy there - and while one person may consider one thing simple, or just for dancing, another may take something else from it. I actually think a lot of her lyrics are clever (Speechless, imo, is beautiful - she wrote it for her dad to try and convince him to have heart surgery when he wouldn't), but it's also the simplicity of other songs that make them so much fun.

With music, I think you like it or you don't. As for mass appeal, the masses like pop music. I think it really is as simple as that. Look how big Madonna was, or Britney Spears - but with Lady Gaga, it's good pop music. And I like Madonna and Britney. But there's something about Gaga's that's just better. She can sing, she's entertaining as fuck - okay, I am a huge Bowie fan, and I go as far as to say she's this generation's female Bowie. She merges fashion and art with music, and I bet you anything as time goes on she's going to do new things with her music, get more experimental.

Just youtube "lady gaga monster ball". Plainly... HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THIS?

I agree with you about the personal nature of the attraction of music. I certainly agree with you that Lady Gaga can sing very well, better than Madonna, and MUCH better than Britney Spears, who is pretty talentless, imho, so that isn't saying much. (Madonna is much more interesting as a performer, so even if she's not a fantastic singer, which I don't think she is, I can forgive her a lot.)

I have been accused of putting her down in this post, but I sincerely don't think I am. I'm just trying to figure out a pop phenomenon that is passing me by. I don't have a TV or much spare time, and as a result, I miss out on a lot of pop culture. I swear, I knew more about pop culture when I lived in Bulgaria, because then I had a TV and time to watch it! Now all I do is write papers and study econ and stats. SO TIRED OF BEING A STUDENT.

Ahaha yeah, I'm not so impressed with Britney's voice, but she has some catchy songs I like. As for Madonna, I mean, I like her, but my favorite thing she's done has probably been Evita. idk. XD

I am all for pimping Lady Gaga. If you want mp3s, I have them, if you want to watch her music videos you can see them all via VEVO on youtube in HD. just type in, for instance, "Lady Gaga Bad Romance video" and it should be the top choice.
