Okay, so I was going to add this post to the "I'm the only one who cares about this" pile, but I think it also applies to those of you who are fans of 1) spy movies/novels, or 2) the works of British author
John le Carre.
According to The Daily Mail, Gary Oldman is in negotiations to play George Smiley, the anti-James Bond, in a big screen version of John le Carre’s 1974 novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Read the full article
here. Colin Firth and David Thewlis are also being considered for supporting roles.
I've never read any of le Carre's works, so I did some quick and dirty research (Thanks, Wikipedia!) and it sounds like this will be an interesting movie no matter who they end up casting as Smiley. Alec Guinness played Smiley in the
1979 BBC television version of the film.
For those interested, here are Wikipedia entries for the novel
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and the character
George Smiley.
Sheesh, I kind of went hyperlink crazy in this post, didn't I?
