I've been here at the Northern Island for almost a week. My parents are still disappointed that I chose to leave them, to put myself into this self-imposed prison. But, don't I deserve it?

I'd much rather shut myself off from the world than let the people of the Zone pass judgement on my fate.

My sister doesn't understand that the people here aren't like the people she knows on the Other Side.

I may not have done the things that destroyed our home, but they were done by my hand. The orders came from my mouth, with my voice. Telling them a witch was inside me would only be an excuse. They don't want excuses.

They want my head.

As far as the Zone is concerned, Azkadellia is guilty.

I'm glad to have the company of the Nurture Units assigned to protect DG. We were able to return their memories, prior to the virus the witch sent them. Henry keeps calling me DG, though. And reminding me to put my bike in the garage, because a storm is coming.

I don't think he realizes, sometimes, he's not on the Other Side.

Mister Cain arrived, this morning. He had supplies for Emily, and letters from my family. He and Henry are just below my window, trying to fix a piece of equipment Henry built to pull water from the lake into the kitchen.

This place is really too big for just the three of us.

The season has changed. The ice is melting, the grass is green.

It almost reminds me of Finaqua... Before.

*~*

Mister Cain arrived again. He said DG was going to come, herself, but Mother didn't want her traveling.

He says he promises to tell DG that I am fine.

*~*

I miss Zora.

*~*

I started laughing today, for no reason I can remember.

A good, honest laugh.

I'd blame my corset for making my side hurt, but I haven't worn one since the day she left.

I sent a letter to Mother. I wanted to know where the sorceress found the MoBats. None of them were evil. They only ever attacked when provoked.

There's plenty of room, here. They could fly and be safe.

*~*

I cut my hair off, this morning. Chopped it right off. Emily nearly fainted.

It's too long, I hate brushing it, and it's tiring to figure out what to do with it, each morning. Every way I pull it up, I see her in the mirror. I want to see ME.

Hank says he likes it. He said it was a little crooked, but it suited me, because no one is perfect.

*~*

Mister Cain showed up, again. He didn't say anything about my hair, but that didn't stop him staring at me.

He brought a note from my mother that said the magic the sorceress used to create the MoBats is stronger than she, DG, and I have. There are no colonies of them in the Zone, like the Papay.

*~*

I received a letter from DG, this afternoon. She says that Mister Cain went to visit his son, in the south. She also says Mother told her about my request.

Apparently, there are some breeds of monkey, on the Other Side, that can be kept as companions.

She thinks I should get a dog, instead.
