Manifesto: Tin Man

for the Manifesto challenge at gameofcards

This came out a little more ramble than something with a point. And, really.. I don't know that it convinces anyone of anything. But... I'm loaded up on allergy meds. If you want more information, just ask; if you need to squeak and squeal, bring it.

For those who know me, my fandom circle is both wide and extremely small. While I may be all over the place, on LJ, the one spot where my heart truly lies is Tin Man. That silly Sci-Fi (because I refuse to use the new spelling) miniseries that took the Wizard of Oz everyone knew and twisted it around to something different. It ended up being the most-watched miniseries in network history, for as little attention as it got.

But, I digress...

Tin Man is dark and broody, flashy and dramatic, and full of more plot holes than a ham and swiss sandwich. BUT... it's got Canada's twelve filming locations, at least six of Canada's twelve actors, and OWNED ME 20 minutes in.

And that's before Neal even showed up.

Let's be perfectly clear here = I went in to this show for one reason and one reason only - I love Neal McDonough. I love Neal McDonough the way crucified loves David Bowie. Oh, yes. and I totally made them brothers in a Tin Man/Labyrinth crossover, one time. Because I could Okay, it might have also been for the writers, who also wrote one of my favorite TV shows. (that Neal starred in, but that's beside the point). And maybe that statement they made about writing the main character (in the first drafts) as Neal's character from the TV series as a cop instead of a doctor.

They literally wrote the part FOR Neal. And then got Neal to accept.

How could I skip that?

I had dabbled with fanfic, etc, prior to the miniseries, but never had really dove in. But, before Part 1 (of 3) even ended, I had already plotted out about five different fanfics. There wasn't a comm for it until the next day, but by the time Part 2 had ended, I think I might have broken poor suckmyspock's inbox LOL

But, getting to the actual point of the matter… Tin Man is the home of my OTP - Wyatt & Adora.

They have the most heartbreaking story -- let's face it, the Tin Man can't really have a happy backstory, being the "heartless" one, and all that. Adora is on screen for an entire two seconds [Sidebar: Ingrid turned up in a recent episode of iZombie and I finally got to see what she looks like OMG!] and bizarra managed to pull out the entirety of the Wyatt/Adora storyline from the six-ish hour series and they've got a good 32 minutes of plot.

There are other people in the cast, of course - Zooey Deschanel flails around with her puppy eyes; Alan Cumming is just adorable; Richard Dreyfuss needs his own show OMG - but, really, it's all about Wyatt Cain.

And, since I'm at work and should really be, y'know... WORKING, I will just leave this with a final note: If you happen across the show, and are interested in a 1940s-style version of The Wizard of Oz, showcasing the great filming locations of every Canadian show ever, Tin Man is for you.

Just make sure you don't get the re-cut version Sci-Fi liked to air, which completely cut Jeb out of the plot. Which is annoying, since he's kind of key to the story.

Most importantly, though... thanks to Tin Man, I got gatechic in my life. I love you (and Garrett) forever, my Bad Horse. ♥ ♥ ♥

PS: You can get a glimpse (if you didn't already see the post) of Tin Man RIGHT HERE.
