Mary & Minnie
"Sugar," Mary stated, matter-of-factly, as she stirred her tea.
"Sugar?" Minerva repeated, eyebrow raised.
"A spoonful is all it takes," Mary nodded, removing the spoon from the cup and waving it slightly.
Everyone knows the story of Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived; the legend of Fred and George Weasley; the misadventures of the group known as the Marauders. Every generation has a student or two, or three... or four... or more.
No student would believe that one of the biggest troublemakers Hogwarts had ever seen was Minerva McGonagall. Nor would they probably believe that House Unity was never better exemplified than with five friends: Minerva and Mary, both Gryffindors (though Mary was quite a Slytherin); Filius, a Ravenclaw; Pomona, a Hufflepuff; and Will, a Slytherin.
The Main Cast
Minerva "Minnie" McGonagall
[Caitlin Blackwood and Karen Gillan]
Minnie didn't go looking for trouble... Mary found her. Even though she knows they're headed for lifetime detentions, Minnie believes she can keep her best friend out of trouble. So far, though, it hasn't worked. She excels at Transfiguration, and has what her friend Will calls an "unhealthy" obsession with Quidditch. Her best friend outside Gryffindor Tower is Pomona Sprout.
Mary Poppins is perfect... in practically every way. Perfectly... Slytherin, for a Gryffindor. An extremely talented witch, Mary makes her own adventure and likes to test every limit. She's not afraid to say exactly what she thinks, and has very little patience for rules. Mary was extended an invitation to join the Slug Club in her second year at Hogwarts, which she accepted after convincing Slughorn to help a friend. She kind of likes a boy back home, named Burt.
Mary Poppins
[Alexis Bledel]
Pomona "Pommy" Sprout
[Kelly Osbourne]
Pommy is a Hufflepuff, and her very best friend at Hogwarts is Minerva. She is tiny, but a force to be reckoned with. Pommy loves Herbology and, following an accident in Potions, ended up with purple hair. At first, she was extremely embarrassed, but after some convincing from her friends, embraced the purple. Once the potion wore off, Pommy was able to get special permission from Headmaster Dippet to keep her hair purple, and Professor Slughorn provided the tonic to permanently change her hair color, which was Mary's sole condition for accepting his invitation to the Slug Club.
Will is a member of Slytherin house and really likes Potions. If he's not in class or getting into trouble with Mary and Minnie, Will can be found in the kitchens, convincing the house elves to let him test some flavor combinations. Will and Filius are good friends, as both are extremely studious. However, both young men find plenty of time for Mary, Minnie, and Pommy. When it comes to testingdistributing his new creations, Mary takes care of delivery to the First Years.
William "Will" Wonka
[Tom Hiddleston]
Filius 'Fil' Flitwick
[Warwick Davis]
Filius is a Ravenclaw, and due to his half-goblin parentage, is an easy target for bullies. Because of this, he learned to master Charms at a very early age. His best friend is Will, though he has a great respect for Mary, who defended him on the first day of school, and has always treated him as if he was six feet tall.
Professor Slughorn is the Potions Master and Head of Slytherin House. He is very interested in the concoctions Will comes up with, and is extremely impressed with the skills of Miss Poppins. He is a firm believer that the Sorting Hat put her in the wrong house. Though he isn't as impressed with the Herbology interests of Miss Sprout, he agreed to provide the young witch with a hair-color tonic, at the request of Miss Poppins.
Professor Horace Slughorn
[Peter Capaldi]
Professor Albus Dumbledore
[Michael Gambon]
Professor Dumbledore is the Transfiguration teacher at Howarts, and can see the skill in Miss McGonagall. Even though she is still a student, he is taking extra care to mold her into a future Professor of Transfiguration. Miss Poppins entertains him a great deal, though he has insisted that behavior like hers wouldn't be allowed if he was Headmaster.
Headmaster Dippet is in charge of the school. Of all the students, Miss Poppins spends the most time in his office. Though she has yet to commit a crime worthy of expulsion, she is aware that he is watching her. Especially when she finds her way into the Hogwarts paintings, though he leaves Mary be so long as she doesn't cause any trouble.
Headmaster Armando Dippet
[Christopher Lee]
EPISODE DESCRIPTIONS
Welcome to Hogwarts
It's the first day of the term for the First Years, and leading up to the Sorting Ceremony, we're introduced to five students, as well as the two main professors. Each of the students have their own interests, but somehow all come together to form a friendship across the four houses.
Purple and Gold
Professor Slughorn has given his students a tricky potion to mix. While many of the students are having success, Pomona's partner gets easily excited and over-mixes their ingredients, resulting in a rather dramatic explosion. When the smoke clears, everyone is all right, but Pomona's hair has turned a bright purple. She's mortified when it's discovered that no magic will remedy the change, and though her friends like the change, Pomona is resigned to having to wait for the color to fade.
Painted Into a Corner
While in the Restricted Section, Mary finds a mention of a charm to put a person into a painting. Her interest piqued, Mary figures out how to make the charm work for herself, and enters into one of the paintings in a deserted hallway. However, getting into the paintings is easy. Getting back out proves to be a little difficult, especially when she learns that the only exitable painting is kept in Headmaster Dippet's office.
The Candy Man
Mary's friends have been oddly-absent lately, and seem to scatter every time she comes around. She takes refuge inside the paintings, which has become a habit, and finds herself being caught by Professor Dumbledore. After a few days of feeling ignored, Mary finally confronts her friends, only to find that they have been helping Will create a special birthday present for her - flowers, charmed and transfigured into edible teacups.
AND A RANDOM SCENE
Will hurried down the aisle and dropped down at the table, next to Minerva. "Mail come in?" he asked, seeing that Mary was already unwrapping a package. Minerva hummed and passed over an envelope.
Mary gasped at the contents of her gift and held it back to properly appreciate the painting. Minerva leaned sideways and made a face. "What is that?" she asked.
Mary glanced up, then turned the framed square toward her friends. "My friend from home painted it. It's the seasons. Isn't it wonderful?" Minerva and Will looked at each other, then back to Mary.
"They're black squares," Will replied dryly. Mary made a face then turned the painting back to herself.
"You just don't understand art," Mary huffed. Will looked at Minerva again and the redhead shrugged.
"Can I see it again?" she asked, giving Mary a smile. Mary nodded and turned the painting again, making a face at Will. After a moment of looking at it, Minerva nodded. "Very... nice."
"It's four black squares," Will stated again. Mary glared at him.
"It is not, William. It's spring, summer," she started, pointing to each square, "autumn and winter." At the look on his face, Mary groaned and set the painting down. "You just don't understand his point of view."
"Was his view blocked by darkness? Eyes closed?" Will snapped back. If looks could kill, Mary might have burned a hole through his forehead. Collecting her bag, and the painting, Mary stood up and glared at him.
"It's called perspective," she spat.
"Was he in a closet?" Will called after her, knowing she was angry, but he was entertained.
"He was in a chimney!" she yelled as she stormed out of the Great Hall.
