"Here," Jake said as he pushed a small box across the tabletop. Cassandra looked up from the book she was reading and focused on the gift.
"What is it?" she asked, tentatively.
"It's a Christmas present," Jake replied, giving her a look that said 'obviously'.
Cassandra shook her head and looked at him again.
"But.. why?"
"Because," Jake shrugged. "It's Christmas."
Cassandra shook her head again. "Why would you give me a gift? You said you didn't trust me."
Jake shrugged again. "Cassandra… Just because I don't trust you," Jake replied, "doesn't mean I can't give you a Christmas present."
