SUMMER
"Is it always this hot?" Wyatt asked, pushing away from the fence so that he could run a sleeve over his brow for the third time in an hour. It was a beautiful day in the Eastern Guild, but the temperature was definitely rising with the second sun.
On the other side of the fence, Adora simply smirked as she continued to fill the trough. Two of the cows were rather impatiently waiting to be fed, and a third was slowly making his way out of the barn. As she pulled back the bucket, the third cow nudged her hip, shoving Adora out of the way so he could get to his breakfast.
Adora raised an eyebrow and let out a small laugh as she moved back over to Wyatt and hung the bucket handle over the fencepost. She leaned against the fence, her hands just on either side of his, and smiled. "This is nothing," she said with a hint of teasing. After all, the previous summer had been uncomfortable, but she attributed that more to training. And there was a distinct difference between heat in the Eastern Guild and the heat of Central City.
"So... it'll get hotter?" Wyatt asked with his own smirk. Adora simply nodded as he unlatched the gate and swung it open for her to step out of the pen. As he relatched the gate, Adora pulled the bucket off the fencepost and moved away. "So, I just have to melt?" he called after her, knowing that it was hotter indoors.
Adora stopped and turned back. "Well," she said with a shrug, slowing moving back to his side. "You could always go jump in the pond," she offered in a low voice. Wyatt tried not to smile, but it was really difficult, especially with her standing right there.
"You go with me?" he asked, only half-teasing, as his hand caught her arm at the elbow.
Adora waited for his fingers to reach her wrist before she answered: "No."
"What?" he laughed, "can't you swim?"
"Oh, I can swim," Adora said with a sharp nod and turned away. Giving the bucket a swing, she added: "I just don't do it fully dressed." As she walked back toward the house, Adora grinned as she forced herself not to look over her shoulder to see his face.
Wyatt groaned. Now, he'd have to jump in the lake.
