Every Wednesday, just about ten past two, Wyatt Cain found Princess DG in the ballroom. These meetings weren't exactly clandestine or fodder for the staff gossip; everyone knew exactly where they were and what they were doing.
DG wanted to learn to dance, properly, for any royal function that she was expected to attend. She had tried to dance with her father, but they always ended up talking about the Other Side. Raw had been dancing with her, but the Viewer had been recalled to his people for an extended time. Glitch had a habit of forgetting that he was helping DG learn the steps, and usually ended up remembering some experiment that he'd left running or - in once case - on the stove.
DG had nearly given up when Cain offered his assistance, with the understanding that he was rather rusty. DG was just happy to have another body there, as she was half a step away from dancing with a broom.
As time passed, DG had mastered the waltz and really didn't need to keep practicing. But both of them had fallen into a comfortable pattern. DG would tell Cain about the Other Side, Cain would tell DG about the Zone he remembered.
When the first chance came for DG to show off her "mad skills", as she called them, a case of butterflies hit her and she could barely enter the room, let alone accept a dance from anyone. After the third dance, Cain moved over to her and held out a hand. Giving her a nod, he smiled and pulled her to the dance floor. All she needed was to start dancing, and she would be fine.
An hour after the party ended, they were still dancing.
