"Stephen." Natalie Durant waited a moment before leaning into the bay and calling her friend's name again. "Stephen?" When he didn't respond a second time, Natalie frowned and stepped into the open space. As she walked around the truck, Natalie could see Stephen Connor's knee sticking out of the open door. Smiling, Natalie shook her head and moved around the door and turned, so that she could lean against it.
"CONNOR!" Stephen looked up from the folder he was skimming and narrowed his eyes slightly, then returned to reading the page. "Come on," Natalie said, waving him out of the passenger seat. Stephen's eyes went up to her and she pointed toward the front of the plane.
"Game time." Stephen huffed and let his eyes go back to the report. Natalie moved around the door and pulled the file from his hands and tossed it onto the driver's seat. Tugging on his sleeve, she stepped back as Stephen shifted and hauled himself out of the truck with a sigh. "I think, this time, I'm gonna win," she said with a cheery grin, ignoring the look Stephen was trying to give her.
"You really want to do this?" he asked quietly. Natalie turned and looked at him, confusion clear on her face. "It's bad enough to be stuck on a plane with Kate. You really want her to know that what we do on the plane is play poker and not work? We'll be taking a bus." Nearing the doorway, Stephen could see Frank waving from the conference table, while Kate was showing her card shuffling skills to Miles.
Natalie turned back to Stephen as Kate flipped the deck with one card and gave him another smirk. "So," Kate asked as Eva sat down across from her, "what are the stakes?" Miles and Frank shared a grin as Natalie pulled an empty chair out.
"Steak," Stephen answered simply, "actually."
"Winner buys dinner," Frank added with a nod as Stephen dropped into the seat next to him. Kate nodded and reshuffled the cards.
"And no more burgers, Stingy!” Eva said, pointing an accusatory finger at Miles.
"Those were a hundred percent Angus beef, Eva. Can't get much more steak than that," Miles snapped back, giving her a dirty look.
