"I hate to part with the girls, y'see," the man said with a downhearted frown, "but I've got no choice."
"I understand," DeMilo said with a nod, and then raised a supportive hand to the man's back. "I can help you out. Give them a good home and see that they're happy." The man looked up, a mixture of relief and sadness in his eyes.
"Really? You'd do that?" DeMilo closed his eyes and nodded, silently ecstatic that he was back in business.

"Ma's gonna kill me," DeMilo whined when eight, fluffy puppies - not girls - burst of out the truck.
