In the Clinic, Sunday Afternoon

After the girls leave, Han settles in with the paper and pen. He tunes the bedside radio to catch the rebroadcast of last night's pirate and drops his head back to the pillow with eyes shut. His boy is going to be so upset.

He takes pen in hand and starts.

Hey Beautiful.

I'm guessing you've heard the radio by now and probably are worrying about me. I got hit by a bunch of ice-balls, some with real sharp pieces of ice in them. We were defending the clinic from killer snowmen. First time I've ever missed Jayne. We coulda used him out there. You and Frank too. It got pretty hairy.

I guess I better start at the beginning. There was a clerical error and I didn't have detention this weekend. So I went to Gun Club. Pippi(one of the new kids, you'd like her I think) came in yelling about needing weapons, so I grabbed everything I could carry and followed her. I loaned your blaster to Deb, hope you don't mind. We wound up defending the school clinic against mobs of snowmen. They threw snowballs full of ice. Shep got bit by a snow-shark, I heard, and I took a bunch of ice in the chest. Maia got me to the gym for medical help and I said thanks by bleeding all over her. The Vice-Principal patched me up just fine.

How's that for your Hero of the Spaceways, darling Bagoas? Sets out to defend the clinic and ends up in it. I lost a good bit of blood but they say I'll be fine in a day or so. My chest feels like I walked into a rotorblade, I'm thirsty in spite of the stuff being pumped into my arm and I'm bored silly in the infirmary bed. So don't you worry about me, Beautiful.

I love you and miss you.

Han finishes the letter and clicks on the television. Of course, there's nothing on in the middle of a Sunday afternoon. He eventually finds a movie, The Prince Groom which appeals to him with its wit and swashbuckling. The swordfight between the Andulusian and the Man in Sable is amazing.
