i saw the most beautiful thing today.
i was walking home and the sunlight was on a slant, dwindling away. a little girl, who was maybe two, and her grandmother were standing, fixated, on their lawn. i stopped and watched them for a moment. i realized the little girl was repeating, "hi! hi!" excitedly over and over. i wondered who she was talking to. it turns out they were being completely still, trying to break the language barrier between them...and a squirrel.
it is kind of funny, but it just reminded me of how something so innocent can be so beautiful, meaningful, and resonant too. when we were two years old, we didn't know how lucky we had it either.
