It was cold.
Pulling her thin jacket more tightly around her wasted frame, Adeline hunched next to the burned-out shell of a building, trying to focus on something else besides the chill that was cutting her to the bone. She would say it was the weather, another harsh New York winter approaching, but she knew that wasn't it.
She'd been numb with cold for years now, ever since the explosion. The one thing that had made it's way past her thick skin, leaving her scarred, if not physically. After, it had been easier just to retreat, to follow the lost souls as they made their pilgramage into the dark recesses of the city.
It would all be so much easier if it weren't for the damnable cold.
Shifting slightly, she tilted her head, listening to the strains of cello music that still played through her thoughts, losing herself to it, if only for a little while.
