Marlena had finally called it quits and though Gia didn't know - or want to know - the particulars, it had put Nikos in a state. What she did know was that the impromptu opening had gotten her out of a surprisingly boring dinner date tonight. Given that she was the cook and waitress as far as Max was concerned, blowing him off just to come serve food was half the work for double the pay.
"You need to start hiring if you want me to keep working," she pointed out, clearing out the last few tables. Only nine and the place wasn't likely to get more business for the night. "I'm one woman and you don't pay me enough to call me in at all hours of the day, you know."
Nikos laughed, shifting lids around and paying her no mind. "Maybe I just like the company!"
"Hush, talk like that and I'll be seeing your wife." Throwing a dish rag at his head, Gia made her way back to the front. No more customers meant they could close early. She'd stop by her folks on her way home. Max would be gone by then.
