Hiro held the pencil hesitantly over the piece of paper. He had only just begun learning English, but his teacher had recommended having a penpal with an American student so he could improve.
Staring at the sheet with the other student's name and address, he smiled. At least his penpal was a boy. If he had to write with a girl, that would be gross. Girls only liked Sailor Moon and Hello Kitty and rainbows and yucky stuff. At least he could talk about Ultraman and Superman and Nintendo with another guy. Girls were just eww.
He finished writing a few words, and then looked at it excitedly. His first English letter! Feeling proud about his accomplishment, he sealed it up, stamped the envelope, and plodded outside to the mailbox, placing it outside.
