Bennet used the long umbrella as a makeshift walking stick, climbing the steep hill and heading deeper into the woods. Amerie was just ahead, stumbling only slightly for a woman who had been kept indoors for far too long. And the syringe was safely in his pocket, should she get out of control.
"Here is good," he said, leaning against a tree for a moment and taking a gulp of water. "Let's stop."
He straightened up, resting the umbrella on the grass, and removed his jacket.
"Go on, then. Show me what you can do."
