In twenty-four hours all Candice'd seen was the inside of Primatech and the inside of her hotel room. Hardly varied, hardly interesting. Not that her work wasn't interesting. She was just in the wrong mood to appreciate it.
Halfway through the afternoon she'd been dismissed and, instead of heading back for much needed sleep or shopping therapy, she'd opted for a walk through the quiet streets. She contemplated calling Jimmy, but he hadn't called either and she wasn't going to be all clingy just because they'd fucked once.
She was in a bad mood. Andrea's good news was coloring her impression of life and it came as a surprise when the very person she'd been telling herself to avoid appeared on her path.
"So this is where the cool kids hang out," she called, watching him from afar.
Billy waved then gut-checked Jimmy with the basketball before running over to the woman. "Candice! Do you play? Do you?"
The eldest Lee could only hug the ball to him, rubbing at where the ball hit the sensitive spot on his hip. "Hey." he managed to say through his grimace. He was happy to see her, pain excluded. All chances to sneak away to see her like he wanted to that day had been thwarted, he'd take a coincidental run-in.
"Hey, kiddo," she greeted, refraining from ruffling her hair. Her grandmother had done that to kids. Candice used to hate it. "Nah, I'm just here to watch. You can't have basketball without cheerleaders."
Darting a look further back, she smiled at Jimmy, though her eyes remained hidden by her sunglasses. "Figured I'd crash the game since I didn't get invited."
"I'm not supposed to play either, doctor's orders. But I got bored." Billy tugged on Candice's wrist. "We can cheer and catch together."
"Mian," Jimmy called over apologetically, spinning the basketball on one finger. It made on rotation before tipping over. "Dad needed my cell for something."
Candice shrugged it off, trying to hide the momentary flare of anger. So his dad didn't approve. When was the last time her parents had approved of anything she did?
Then, turning her attention to Billy, she frowned a little. "Doctor's orders?"
