Even with the annoying holiday muzak playing over the PA system and overdone decorations, Jimmy was excited. With his red letter jacket (his dad made him wear it), he practically blended in. And he was relieved, the mall was devoid of the weekend and rush hour crowd. He purposefully picked to go during the week and early in the morning, Jimmy had little patience for standing in lines. Or standing, but he was working on that. Tightening his grip on the backpack slung over his shoulder, he shuffled forward. Jimmy was still getting the hang of walking with the vinyl looking boot strapped to his leg. If he had crutches he might've been more successful, but he had lost patience with those too. Instead, he half dragged and limped the appendage along, his walk a slow waddle from side to side.
Stopping at the large mall directory, he took a moment to take his breath while he surveyed the store names, rubbing at the center of his chest absently. He glanced over at his companion for the day, grinning over at him. It was a first, he'd yet to spend any time with Jamie since he moved down to Texas, and what better way to bond than to help find gifts? "Where to first?"
