Thor wouldn’t call it hatred. He still loved his brother. . . His adoptive brother. He would always be the younger brother he played and grew up with. He would always be one of his best friends. For Thor, there was only love there. He’d try to save Loki from himself, and he’d keep trying, until it killed him. He was sure sometimes it would.

And Loki, if he honestly thought about it, it wouldn’t call it hatred either. He did still love his adoptive brother. It wasn’t really Thor’s fault he was always the favourite, he realised. Loki’s hate was never directed at Thor, not personally anyway. He was angry about being lied too for so long mostly. Thor didn’t know, and something told him that even if Thor knew he wouldn’t have treated him any different.

That was Frigga’s influenced. She loved Loki has though he was her own biological son, even though she knew the truth. And even though she was part of the lie, and in a big way, Loki didn’t really feel hatred towards her.

He hated his brother for he won the throne, and their father’s respect. That’s all Loki really wanted to be an equal to Thor, not be the heir. He just wanted a fair chance. An equal footing. Thor always had one up on him through his birth, and possibly his status as a warrior, a loyal son with Asgard and her safety always at the forefront of his mind.

Loki realised that being a warrior was only half of what he took to be a king. He learnt the lesson well, and tried to teach Thor it too, but he was bloodthirsty. He caved a battle in honour of Asgard. The blundering idiot. And that was his undoing. But even though he was so stupid to realise what he’d done even after being directly told, he was still seen as better than Loki.

Loki’s skill set was different, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t equal. That didn’t mean he would make a lesser king. It simply meant he’d approach royal duties a little differently to his hot headed brother. Instead of blundering into war he’d use his silver tongue and tricks and would probably avoid massive bloodshed. That was the makings of a great king. And that’s what Loki really hatred. That’s what Loki really wanted to avenge. He had more than the right skills, more than the right mind. He had the making to be a great king, but his father was blinded by his love of his biological son, and by rights, his true heir.
