A/N: I know I’m completely ignoring how this prompt was supposed to have been used, but I wanted to end this little drabble/one-shot collection on a happy note.
Furher Grumman approved of the idea. He told Roy had had already considered it and passed it by his cabinet. It was only a matter of days now. Roy was already late.
Roy saluted the man, but as he turned to leave the office, the old man stopped him. “Is there a reason you asked me about this issue, General? A personal involvement?”
Roy looked back at the sly old man. He was only trying to prove his theory. He had been on to Roy from the moment he asked to choose his own subordinates.
“I have reason to believe you already know the answer to that question.”
Grumman smiled. “Take care of my granddaughter.”
“I’ve always tried my best.”
Grumman saluted Roy and the general exited the room.

Roy used the same line he had used on Riza last time. “You don’t get out of the house enough; you bury yourself in your work. Come play catch with me.”
They met at Central’s biggest park. Trees and children littered the park. It was a bright summer day, families brought picnics, kids flew kites, and teenagers kissed in the shade of the trees. Everything looked like something out of a magazine. Roy brought a baseball and two gloves; Riza came with her hair down.
The first toss was given to Riza, who flung the ball at him, catching him off guard and hitting him square in the chest. Roy fell backwards. “I’ve been shot!” he practically yelled.
Children nearby laughed, as she ran towards him, Riza was a mixture worry and amusement, trying to stifle a laugh as Roy lay on the ground clutching his chest. If he hadn’t been in so much pain, Roy probably would’ve been laughing as well.
“I’m so sorry,” Riza said. She kneeled next to him, not quite sure what to do.
“No, it’s okay, it’s just,” he winced as he sat up, “Damn. You’re throws haven’t gotten any weaker. You’d be an amazing pitcher.”
Her eyes crinkled with amusement. “After I retire maybe I should look into it.”
“I’m sure they’d have a senior’s baseball program.”
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yep. I’ll be up on my feet in just a second.”
Riza shook her head. “You don’t need to play with me if you don’t want to. I don’t think you need any more blows to the chest.” She nodded to his stomach, where he had been ripped through by the homunculus Lust.
“But I need to talk to you.”
“And why do you need to play catch while doing so?”
Roy shrugged; he winced as his shoulders came back down. “It’s important to us. I showed you you had a good aim.”
A light smile played at her lips. “What did you need to tell me.”
Roy looked her straight in the eye. Looking at the amber brown depths he had known for most of his life, he swallowed. “I love you,” he said.
Riza appeared to be very troubled all of the sudden. She sighed and opened her mouth to say something, but Roy had to explain before he faced such quick rejection.
“Grumman is releasing the ban on fraternization in the military. There aren’t any rules against it now. I want you to marry me.”
Roy could watch, in almost a time-lapse motion, the expression on Riza’s face switch from sadness to one of wonder and joy.
“We’ve always been a great team.” Roy slowly lifted his hand to her cheek.
Riza began to chuckle. “And you’re asking me while sitting on the ground injured.” She raised her hand to cover her mouth.
“I have a ring,” Roy lowered his hand and dug in his pocket for a small black velvet box. “This just didn’t work out the way I imagined.”
“You didn’t picture yourself being pummeled?”
“No, I pictured myself acting way more romantic and masculine.” He pulled the diamond ring out of its box and lifted it up to her face, offering it to her.
Shaking her head again, she said, “This is more wonderful than I could have ever imagined.” Her voice was almost a whisper. “I’d say it doesn’t matter that you’re rolling on the ground as you propose but I’d guess you’d beg to differ.”
People were probably watching them at this point. Some had probably even identified them. Some probably thought they were either breaking military law or retiring. Neither Roy nor Riza were paying any attention to their surroundings though.
“Is that a yes?” Roy asked.
She cupped his face and leveled his face with hers. “I love you, of course I’ll marry you.”
She kissed him and her slipped the ring on her finger.
