What did you do when you were younger? On week nights?
Since I can remember, I was in the girl scouts and we met at least once a week, then had monthly camp trips or outings.
I remember Viendi was in karate.
We weren't in sports or music or Vietnamese classes and were just in after school daycare.
This occurred until 8th grade.
I played outside, inside, drew, went to the library every weekend, to theme parks, to the park, listened to family conversations.
When we were in early high school, we took Catholic Confirmation classes, which were also probably once a week at night.
When I stopped Girl Scouts, I moved into Academic Decathlon which met during school, and ever single weekend.
I also joined a few high school clubs that met once in a while after school.
I enrolled myself in free SAT prep classes on weekends.
Viendi went into band which was practically every day. We'd also go watch her play on Friday nights.
I would visit Ong Noi many weekday afternoons.
And then there was the Internet.
I just wonder if our collective extracurriculars framed our upbringings and hobbies and values in any way, even though I know they for sure did. I'm grateful to my parents for exposing us to so much!!!!
I'm grateful that I developed a sense of adventure, a comfort with the outdoors (even if I don't so much ever enjoy it but I can appreciate it), acknowledge respect, tradition, non tradition, family, philosophy, and much more.
